This page explains how to handle and install your custom content.
Note that if your downloads are in zipped files, you will need to extract the files from the zips first before installing them.
Installing lots, rooms, and Sims
Lots, rooms, and Sims are accompanied by a number of different files, all of which need to be placed in the TRAY folder:
Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Tray
The files you place in the Tray folder include:
Lots
- trayitem
- blueprint
- bpi files
We also have a detailed guide on installing a lot into your game neighborhood!
Rooms
- trayitem
- room
- rmi files
Sims
- householdbinary
- trayitem
- sgi
- hhi files
If you find any package files included with your lot, room or Sim, place them in the Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods folder — not in the Tray folder.
Once installed, your lots, rooms, or Sims will show up in your in-game Gallery.
Installing everything else...
Custom content comes in .package files. If your content is in a ZIP file, extract it first.
Place all .package files in your Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods folder.
You may organise your Mods folder into subfolders — this is safe as long as you have the resource.cfg file telling the game how many folder levels to scan.
The TSR Custom Content Manager
If this all sounds like too much hassle, we offer a Custom Content Manager for our VIP members. The CC Manager:
- downloads AND installs all your content automatically
- shows images and creator info for everything you install
- lets you uninstall content easily, including Tray items
- notifies you when a creator updates their files
- continues working even without VIP (VIP is only needed for new downloads or updating)
You can keep using the CC Manager even without VIP — VIP is only required for installing new CC or keeping existing CC updated.
